1 Why were Mr. Ahmed's students excited?

Mr. Ahmed's students were excited because Mr. Ahmed arranged the visit to farm with Mr. Hassan, the manager of the Model Agricultural farm for them.

2 What surprised the boys when they reached the model farm?

They had no idea that an agricultural farm could be so large and interesting. The boys were surprised at seeing such a big farm.

3 What is the name of the machine working in the wheat field and what does it do?

The huge machine called Combine. It cuts and ties the crop into sheaves. With one sweep, it seemed to eat up a large area of the golden crop which came out tied into a bundle at the other end.

4 What does Thresher do?

The wheat goes from Combine into Thresher. The Thresher separates the grain from the chaff. From one end of the machines falls a golden rain of sweet smelling wheat, while chaff flows out at the other.

5 How are ploughing, seeding, harvesting and threshing done on the model farm?

On model farm, ploughing is done by tractors, the seeding is done by the sowing machine, the harvesting is done by the Combine and threshing is done by thresher.

6 How much work can a man do on a machine?

Machines have made the work easy for farmers, that's why a man working with a machine can do the work of almost hundred men working without it.

7 What is the average produce per hector on the model agricultural farm and ordinary farm?

The average produce from an ordinary farm is 15 to 20 quintals while the model farm 60 to 70 quintals.

9 What do they do to kill the germs and insects?

They spray pesticides and insecticides to kill germs and insects. Thin includes washing of tree trunks with lime water and removal of wild grass and weeds.

10 What do they grow on the model farm?

They grow wheat, cotton, sugarcane and gram. Moreover they also grow vegetables and they also have a large orchard, where they grow mangoes and oranges.

11 Why were the boys surprised on the vegetable farm?

The boys were surprised to see the vegetables out of season on the vegetable farm. They do it by the usage of chemical fertilizers, plentiful supply of water and by modern machines.

12 Which machines are used on the model agricultural farm and what are their functions?

 Different machines are used on model agricultural farm such as combine which cut the crop and tie in sheaves, thresher which separate the grain from chaff, tractors which plough deeper and sowing machine which sows the seed.

13 Give four methods which are used on model agricultural farm to produce bigger crop?

First tractors plough deeper and they prepare land for sowing. . The sowing machine sows the seed very fast. . Then chemical fertilizers is used to enrich the soil. . Water is also supplied by tube wells to their fields for all the year round.

14 What Mr. Hassan offered boys in lunch?

Mr. Hassan offered the boys fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. They ate them with great delight.
